School Meals

At Wootton St Andrew’s CE Primary School, we believe that lunchtime is an important part of the school day. It provides children with the opportunity to enjoy a healthy meal, develop independence, socialise with their friends and recharge ready for an afternoon of learning.

School Meals

Fresh, nutritious hot meals are delivered to school each day by our catering provider.

To help ensure the correct number of meals are ordered and to minimise food waste, we ask families to choose one lunch option for each half term:

  • A school hot meal every day, or
  • A packed lunch every day.
If your child has a specific medical or dietary requirement, please contact the school office so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Menus are shared with parents in advance, allowing children to look forward to their meal choices.

Universal Infant Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals, regardless of family income.

We encourage families to take advantage of this offer, giving children the opportunity to enjoy a healthy, balanced hot meal each day.

Children in Years 3 to 6 can purchase a school meal for £2.90 per day, unless they are eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals. If you think your child may be eligible, please contact the school office in confidence for more information.

Registering for Free School Meals not only supports your child but also enables the school to access additional funding to enhance learning opportunities.

Packed Lunches

Children are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home.
As a school, we promote healthy lifestyles through the North Lincolnshire Healthy Me approach, recognising that making healthy choices supports both a healthy body and a healthy mind. We encourage packed lunches to include a balanced selection of foods that help children stay energised, concentrate in lessons and develop positive lifelong habits.

A healthy packed lunch might include:

  • A sandwich, wrap or pasta/rice-based meal
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • A healthy snack such as yoghurt or cheese
  • Water or sugar-free squash
To support healthy eating, and to optimise readiness for learning, we kindly ask that sweets, chocolate bars, energy drinks and fizzy drinks are not included in lunchboxes.

Lunchtime Arrangements

To provide a calm and enjoyable dining experience, lunch takes place in two sittings:

  • Reception, Year 1 and Year 2: 11:50am – 12:20pm
  • Years 3 to 6: 12:20pm – 12:50pm
Children enjoy time to eat with their friends before spending the remainder of lunchtime playing outdoors.
Our lunchtime team promotes our Wootton Way values of Love, Joy, Courage and Trust, encouraging good manners, kindness, independence and respectful behaviour throughout the lunch period.

We encourage children to taste new foods and develop confidence in trying different flavours and textures. While we never force children to eat anything they do not wish to, we gently encourage them to give unfamiliar foods a try, helping them to build healthy eating habits and broaden their tastes over time.

Allergies and Special Diets

Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds

The safety of our children is our priority. If your child has a food allergy, intolerance or requires a special diet for medical or religious reasons, please let the school office know as soon as possible. We work closely with our catering provider and families to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place.

Healthy eating is an important part of children’s physical health, emotional wellbeing and ability to learn. Through our curriculum and the Healthy Me approach, we help children understand how eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water and leading an active lifestyle can positively impact both body and mind.

Together, we aim to develop lifelong healthy habits that enable every child to flourish.
