Safeguarding

Keeping Every Child Safe, Valued and Able to Shine

At Wootton St Andrew’s Church of England VA Primary School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do.
Guided by our Christian vision and values of Love, Joy, Courage and Trust, we are committed to creating a safe, happy and caring environment where every child feels valued, protected and able to flourish.

We believe that every child is unique, deeply loved by God and created in His image. Together with families, the Church and our wider community, we nurture and support children so they can learn, grow and shine as individuals.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Our Commitment:

We are committed to:
  • Protecting children from harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
  • Listening carefully to children’s voices and responding to concerns.
  • Supporting children’s mental health, wellbeing and emotional development.
  • Building positive partnerships with parents, carers and external agencies.
  • Teaching children how to stay safe in school, at home, in the community and online.
  • Providing timely support and early help when families need it.
  • Creating a culture where every child feels respected, included and valued.
In living out our vision, we strive to be a light for others, showing kindness, courage and compassion in all that we do.

Our Christian Vision in Action

Our safeguarding work is rooted in the belief that all people are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27).
Inspired by St Andrew, who faithfully followed Jesus and served others, we encourage our pupils to:

  • Show kindness and respect.
  • Have the courage to speak up when something is wrong.
  • Build trusting relationships with others.
  • Support and care for those around them.
  • Develop resilience and confidence.
We want every child to know:

You are valued. You belong. You will be listened to.
Operation Encompass

Wootton St Andrew’s CE Primary School participates in Operation Encompass.
This partnership enables schools to provide immediate support for children who may have experienced domestic abuse incidents. Information is shared confidentially so that appropriate support can be offered at the earliest opportunity.

Prevent Duty

As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, we help children develop the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe from radicalisation and extremism.
Through our curriculum, Christian values and promotion of British Values, pupils learn to:

  • Respect others.
  • Celebrate difference.
  • Think critically.
  • Challenge prejudice.
  • Develop positive relationships.
