Preparing Children to Flourish in Modern Britain
At Wootton St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School, we are committed to developing the whole child.
Alongside academic achievement, we help pupils grow into confident, respectful and responsible individuals who are ready to contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
Guided by our vision, “Rooted in The Wootton Way, journeying together in the light of Love, Joy, Courage and Trust,” we nurture children’s Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development through all aspects of school life.
How We Promote SMSC
Children at Wootton have opportunities to:
- Reflect on their beliefs, values and experiences.
- Understand right and wrong and make positive choices.
- Build strong relationships and work collaboratively with others.
- Appreciate and celebrate different cultures, faiths and backgrounds.
- Develop confidence, resilience and independence.
- Contribute positively to school and community life.
These experiences are woven throughout our curriculum, collective worship, enrichment activities and everyday interactions.
British Values
We actively promote the fundamental British Values of:
Democracy
Children learn that their voices matter through opportunities such as School Council, class discussions and pupil leadership roles.
Rule of Law
Children understand the importance of rules, responsibilities and fairness, helping to create a safe and positive learning environment.
Individual Liberty
We encourage pupils to make informed choices, take responsibility and develop confidence in who they are.
Mutual Respect
Respect is at the heart of our school community. Children are taught to value and care for others, treating everyone with kindness and consideration.
Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
As a Church of England school, we celebrate diversity and help children develop understanding, respect and appreciation for people of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds.
British Values in Action
Children experience these values through:
- Collective Worship
- Religious Education
- PSHE and Relationships Education
- School Council
- Educational visits and visitors
- Charity and community projects
- Team sports and extracurricular activities
- Daily classroom life
